Case Study — Sport & Leisure Winterfold House School Hockey Pitch & MUGA

Quantity Surveyor and Employer’s Agent for a c. £1.2m full-size sand dressed hockey pitch and floodlit multi-use games area at an independent school in Worcestershire, delivered on programme and to budget.

The challenge

New sports facilities in a live school

Full-size sand dressed synthetic hockey pitch at Winterfold House School

Winterfold House School wanted to give its pupils first-class outdoor sports facilities: a full-size sand dressed synthetic grass hockey pitch with a spectator area, and two floodlit porous macadam courts for tennis and netball, with new access paths and an access road.

The works involved importing and spreading around 20,000 tonnes of sub-base aggregate, all while the school stayed open, on a 14-week design and build programme.

Delivered by Ollie Thompson MRICS in a previous role at Mace.
